Alpaca is a unique and luxurious wool that is soft and silky to touch.
Garments made from alpaca are lightweight, yet surprisingly warm. Being softer, more elastic and stronger than sheeps wool, alpaca fibre produces more durable garments that hang well, keep their shape and won't pill.
With 22 recognised natural colours, the alpaca is the world's most colour-diverse fibre-producing animal. Colours range from white, through fawn, brown, and grey to a true black, and if you want to extend the range, alpaca fibre readily accepts dyes.
We, at Double-H Alpacas, have been utilizing the wool off our animals to almost 20 years and have gained considerable experience in hand processing of the wool and using it in a variety of ways. With this knowledge, we are happy to assist you in your wool adventures.

Double-H Alpacas uses and highly recommends Inwood-Smith drum carders.
The drum carders are very popular with those who process alpaca wool. Having the wool carded makes it a lot quicker to spin, and more convenient for processing in other ways.

Spinning lessons are held regularly in the craft centre by Aileen, our craft expert. Aileen has been spinning alpaca wool for 20 years, and can also help with queries regarding knitting, crocheting, and many other crafty things.
